What is the European Hydrogen Week about?
Join us for the second edition of the European Hydrogen Week (EHW), taking place from 29 November to 3 December 2021!
Summer this year, the first-ever Climate Law for Europe was adopted, writing into law the goals set out in the European Green Deal. To achieve these ambitious goals, the European Commission adopted in July the ‘Fit for 55’ package of policy proposals to make the EU's climate, energy, land use, transport and taxation policies fit for this target and make Europe become the world's first climate-neutral continent by 2050. Building on all these ambitions as the first step in the implementation of the EU Hydrogen Strategy, the Week will discuss the tremendous opportunities associated with the production and use of hydrogen and hydrogen-based fuels in the different sectors of the economy and how hydrogen will play a key role in the European Green Deal.
The European Hydrogen Forum is a unique event bringing together European industry, policy makers, government representatives as well as the research community to discuss and steer the increased potential for clean hydrogen in the upcoming years.

Hydrogen Forum

The European Hydrogen Week (EHW) will mark the public launch of the Clean Hydrogen Partnership – as the successor of the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU). Participants will discuss how the new partnership can further accelerate the development and improvement of advanced clean hydrogen technologies ready for market, across energy, transport, building and industrial end-uses.
Together with the Hydrogen Alliance, the Clean Hydrogen Partnership will be a key instrument for implementing the European Hydrogen Strategy and for achieving the EU Green Deal’s ambitious goals.
Awards
Monday | 29 November
The first day of the event will feature the Awards ceremony, at its fourth edition this year. The Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU) will reward its top projects for innovation excellence. In addition to the Best Outreach, Best Success Story and Best Innovation awards, Hydrogen Europe
Research will recognise talented Young Scientists for expanding access to sustainable, efficient fuel-cell technology for a wide range of high-impact applications.

R&I priorities

Day 2 will focus on the strategic European scientific priorities for the hydrogen economy. All sectors, including the wider scientific community, will have the opportunity to discuss ways to bridge the gaps between ready-to-market technology and large-scale uptake, while continuing the efforts to improve and diversify the technological options.
Topis will range from the importance of specialised skill acquisition to the creation of a Hydrogen Knowledge Hub and how the EU can scale up the cost-efficient production, distribution, storage, and consumption of renewable hydrogen.
Hydrogen Strategy
Hybrid event | Wednesday | 01 December
With a massive macro-economic stimulus for the economy to find our way out of the Covid-19 crisis, Europe is facilitating unique opportunities to make industry greener and more resilient. Europe is a leader in the development of many clean hydrogen technologies and recognises the potential of hydrogen to decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors, particularly in industry and heavy-transport.
The third day of the EHW 2021 will address how the EU is planning to reach the GW electrolysers by 2024, with the objective to scale up to 40 GW by 2030 or to implement the ambitious plans on Alternative Fuels Infrastructure. Other topics of the day will include alternatives to overcome key technological barriers in the production, distribution and storage of hydrogen and will analyse the challenges on regulations and standards for a hydrogen economy.
The Programme Review Days (PRD)

This two-days event will kick-close the whole week and, following the tradition of the past 11 years, will provide an excellent visibility platform for more than 60 projects currently on-going under FCH JU.
Join us on 2 and 3 December to hear Europe's leading hydrogen projects and discover updates about the technology!
More than 53 selected projects and initiatives will have the opportunity to present their progress, obtain feedback, exchange ideas and best practices on the latest technological developments in the sector. Throughout the entire event we will also make available for download scientific posters for all FCH JU funded projects.
